The film industry was beginning to emerge at the end of the 19th century. Future King Albert was an enthusiastic and informed film-lover.
During his reign, the royal couple began to appear on screen. Albert and Elisabeth were keen to display a glamorous public image. They came also gladly in contact with the people. For filmmakers, they were a perfect subject. As modern sovereigns, they showed interested in all important issues, from the First World War to Congo, including sciences, cultural heritage, environment and the place held by Belgium in the world.
Through a selection of partly unseen footage and objects belonging to the federal heritage, 25 years of their lives are portrayed here.
